Living Building Workshop was engaged to renovate and remodel a three-story house for a recently retired couple. Originally constructed in 1990 the house had a solid structure and excellent cedar siding. However, the layout and finishes were in desperate need of 'assistance' and it was time for a mechanical and electrical upgrade.
Working closely with the clients, we designed a space unique to the way they live and entertain. The project required stripping back all the finishes in the house, bringing the majority of the spaces down to the studs, moving some walls, and making one key structural change required to open up the kitchen and living area. We also incorporated some significant upgrades to the outdoor living areas and brought in a sophisticated material pallet with contemporary finishes and lighting throughout.
As the couple wishes to age in place, we ensured staircases were well lit and finished with a an attractive, durable anti-slip carpet, and a very strong handrail complete with a glowing integrated light.
