Living Building Workshop was engaged to design a workshop for an olympic medal winning rower and his wife who are both very involved in the sport. The workshop was designed as a space to house traditional wood working tools and equipment, complete with area to store rowing shells and oars.
Working with the couple we designed a simple contemporary take on a traditional form, with a material pallet of metal standing seam roofing, exposed cedar structure elements, and cedar siding that would tie in their existing house and their wooded island site.
A covered and shaded space along the side of the building allows for additional boats to be hung up out of the rain, while keeping within the size permitted of an accessory building. Further unconditioned storage space is provided above the workshop.
